TEAM QUOTES:

A smooth race for AJ Allmendinger and his No. 47 Kingsford Chevrolet SS is just what the JTG Daugherty Racing team ordered for the Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and in the end they capped off their day with an 18th-place finish. Allmendinger is currently 21st in the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points standings, only 70 points out of first place.

Brad Keselowski won the third race of the season as leader Dale Earnhardt Jr. ran out of fuel coming to the checkered flag. There were 21 lead changes among 10 drivers and only four caution flags for 18 laps.

“It was a respectable day and we came away with an 18
th-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon with our No. 47 Kingsford Chevrolet SS,” Allmendinger said. “We were bad on restarts because we were struggling with grip; we were really loose. However, I thought during the middle of the race we were pretty decent and late in the race as well. We also were able to keep up and get our lap back that we lost. All and all, we finished the day on the lead lap and did not have any mistakes or mechanical problems and it’s a step in the right direction heading into Bristol Motor Speedway this week.”

“Las Vegas Motor Speedway is not my best track and actually I think Sunday’s finish may have been my best finish there,” Allmendinger continued. “We are getting there as a team. I’d love to have it all at one time, but the positive is that we are competitive each week. We are not quite there yet where we want  to be and where I think we should be. We are getting close. We have got speed in the car. We will just keep digging away.”
“Overall, the race at Vegas was a good day for us,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “We went into the race saying, ‘At least, we need to not make any mistakes.’ I feel like that was a well-earned 18th-place finish with the No. 47 Kingsford Chevrolet SS.
“I cannot remember the last time where we came to a big track like Las Vegas Motor Speedway and finished on the lead lap,” Burns continued. “So, it’s definitely progress. Our pit crew did a great job and did not make any big mistakes. That’s all I asked of everyone and that was to basically do the simple things right and they did that. Everybody delivered. We just wanted to get through a clean weekend like this and start turning things around. We’ve got a good group of guys that work really hard and we’re looking forward to good things to come from this team.”
