Event: Toyota Owners 400
Date: Saturday, April 26th
Start: 14th
Finish: Sixth
TEAM QUOTES:
The JTG Daugherty Racing team was proud of their efforts as AJ Allmendinger posted their best finish of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and second top-10 finish of the year when he crossed the finish line in sixth-place with his No. 47 BUSH'S Grillin' Beans Chevrolet at Richmond International Raceway. Allmendinger advanced two spots to 17th in the driver points standings.
“It was a good race for us," AJ Allmendinger said. "It was just a tough race track. I was really happy with the BUSH'S Grillin' Beans Chevrolet in general. It is just such a fine line between being too tight and burning the rear tires off or just being a little too loose the whole time. I thought there were two or three long runs where I thought the car was awesome. Then another couple of runs it was not as good. Overall, I am really proud of my guys. We definitely had a top-15 car all day or a top-10 car. We probably stole one or two spots there finish wise at the end, but we are getting there.”
“I’m really proud of the finish considering AJ dealt with a lot of adversity on pit road that was out of our control, which was traffic/cars around us,” crew chief Brian Burns said. “AJ probably passed more cars on the track than most people out there.
“We had a really good car,” Burns continued. “We knew we had a car that could run in the top-10 all night and compete for the win. If all that stuff on pit road wouldn’t have happened, he would probably have been up there with the three or four cars racing for the win. For example, the No. 16 car (Greg Biffle) pitted in our box one time. It seems like the times we really needed a good stop somebody around us messed up our day and kept pushing us back. The pit crew did a really good job dealing with what happened around us. We can’t control other's mistakes. I’m just proud of everyone.”
"AJ Allmendinger is the man," JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said. "That’s pretty much my quote. I’m just proud of everyone. I’m happy and happy for all our partners."
